Join us on Thursday, April 8th, 2021 at 4:00 pm EDT for “On Becoming a Cat Person: Cats in the Lives of Children with Autism”, a webinar with Drs. Gretchen Carlisle and Rebecca Johnson. They will be discussing their research findings related to the benefits of cats for some children with autism . This study was funded in part by EveryCat Health Foundation, W17-031
One in 54 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and many live with pets. While a growing body of research has explored pet ownership in general or dog ownership, research on cats within families of children with ASD has been limited. In this lecture, Drs. Carlisle and Johnson will describe the physiology behind the human-animal bond and the benefits of pets for children and families. Recent research on shelter cat adoption by families of children with ASD will be highlighted.
